Kerala Psc includes two three questions from calendar sections .So we need to by-heart days,terms and formulas .Here we will discuss more details and provides the practice questions .

How many days in year ?

365 days for normal year and 366 days for leap year

What is Leap year ?

A leap year is a year in which an extra day is added to the calendar in order to synchronize one fourth (1/4) day of each year .For one normal year having 356 days plus 1/4 (0.25) day .So After 4 years the (0.25*4 =1 day). This extra day will added to the February .

How to Find a leap year ?

The year completely divisible by 4 and 400 is leap year . For example take the year 2200 check its leap year or not ?

Step 1 2200 divided by 4 , 2200/4 =500 and reminder =0 (We will assume its leaper .But its centurion year (year ending with 100)

Step 2 2200 divided by 400 ,2200/400 =5.5 and reminder =200 So Its not Leap year

How many odd days in a leap year ?

Odd days means extra days ,consider the 366 days in leap year .Total 7 days in one week .

366 divided by 7 ==> 366/7 and reminder = 2 days

for Non leap year having 1 odd days

Calendar Notes

Normal Year January 1st and December 31st are same day

  • Normal Year January 1st and December 31st are same day
  • Leap Year Sunday, 1 January and ends on Monday, 31 December
  • The first days of the centuries year will be Monday ,Tuesday ,Thurstday and Saturday
  • The last days of a century can be Monday ,Wednesday ,Friday and Sunday
  • Monday Common for Start and End

Hint :Find the Odd days,after January 1 remaining days 30. Add the odd days with Wednesday .

Step1 Find odd days
January 30/7 –> 2 (Reminder)
February 29/7 –> 1
March 31/7 –> 3
April 30/7 –> 2
May 31/7 –> 3
Jun 30/7 –> 2
July 31/7 –> 3
August 10/7 –> 3

Step2 Total sum of odd days
Total Sum=2+1+3+2+3+2+3+3 = 19
Again divided by seven => 19/7 Reminder 5
Add the 5 days with Wednesday => Wed+5 => Monday
Answer = Monday

If 2016 September 11 is Sunday then 2016 June 8 will be ?

Hint :Find the Odd days,June 8 remaining days 22. Subtract odd days from Sunday .

June 22/7 –> 1
July 31/7 –> 3
August 31/7 –> 3
Sepetmber 11/7 –> 4

Total Sum= 1+3+3+4 =11
Again divided by seven => 11/7 Reminder 4
Subtract 4 days from Sunday ==>Sunday-4==>Wednesday Answer = Wednesday

If 2013 ends in Tuesday then which will be celebrated as republic day next year ?

Hint: 2014 Republic day January 26 and 26 days in between December 31 and 26 .

January 26/7 –> 5 (Odd days)
Add the 5 days with Tuesday => Tuesday+5
Answer = Sunday

If 1995 January 5 is Thursday then July 10 will be ?

Hint: 1995 is not leap year ,so odd days February 1 .

January 26/7 –> 5 (Reminder)
February 28/7 –> 0 (Not leap year )
March 31/7 –> 3
April 30/7 –> 2
May 31/7 –> 3
Jun 30/7 –> 2
July 10/7 –> 3
Total Sum of Odd days =5+0+3+2+3+2+3 = 18
Again divided by seven =>18/7 Reminder 4
Add the 4 days with Thursday ==> Thursday+4
Answer = Monday
